Natural Wonders
Since the park is a protected area, there are some great wildlife viewing opportunities. Here are some things you may see on your hike:
- Whitetailed Deer
- Coyote
- Bobcat
- Wild Turkey
- Bald Eagle
- Scarlet-Tanager (spring-summer)
- Red-Tailed Hawk
- Box Turtle
- Various Non-Venomous Snakes
- Scissortailed Flycatcher
- Groundhog
- Red Fox
Keep an eye out and use caution when hiking, the following may also be found in this park:
- Copperhead Snake
- Diamondbacked and Pygmy Rattlesnakes
- Poison Ivy
- Stinging Nettles
- Deerflies
- Ticks (there is a larger than normal tick population in the park)
- Wasps and Hornets
- Black and Brown Widow Spiders
It is best to use caution around creeks and areas of high grass or thick brush especially in the spring and summer months.
